Let's set a date to get stupid, make new memories and talk about the "good old days"-like when Gayle could drink us all under the table! I'm looking for input from all of you on what YOU want this to be.
WHO'S INVITED:
Any and all AFRCers B-gaden 80-81, friends, Family, children any previous reunion participants or other AFRCers. absolutely NO Domestic/European livestock or farm animals. (sorry Oak) ANY other Ideas are welcome.
WHAT THE HECK ARE WE DOING?:
Uh?...Skiing, Skiing, & more Skiing. Side tours for non skiing Mo-Fos and anyone who needs a break mid week will be arranged by our Tirolian Guide to adventure- Herr Joe Pritchard. As of today Tours will likely go to Salzburg/castle, the salt Mines, Innsbruck, Munich, and the local Gastehaus'. ANY other Ideas are welcome.
WHERE ARE WE GOING:
The 20th in '01 was in Flacheau Austria and the accommodations were 4-Star but the cost was very reasonable. There was plenty of terrain for all abilities. It was centrally located for side trips. And Just pretty damn beautiful! However we are not locked into any place yet. ANY other Ideas are welcome.
WHEN WILL IT ALL HAPPEN:
February Presidents Week break'06 looks like the most convenient time for everyone. Kids are off from school pretty much across the country during that week so East coast West coast and everyone in between will be available, and we should have good snow. ANY other Ideas are welcome.
WHY ARE WE GOING:
Because we were there! Because it was 25 years ago, so this is a landmark reunion! Because it's great to see old friends! Because The German and Austrian Alps are absolutely awesome in the winter! Because the Austrian people are friendly, fun, and the food is fantastic! Because your spouses and kids have heard all the stories and deserve to feel the power of that land, the majesty of those mountains and the hospitality of the ancient traditional customs. AND... If you don't go then, you'll be a year older when you do. ANY other Ideas are welcome.
HOW DO WE DO THIS:
It's not a miracle that we landed men on the moon in'69, we just decided to go. So... decided to go and we'll make it happen. "But it cost so much for a trip like this". NOT! In '01 it was cheaper to fly NY-Munich than to Denver. Our Hotel (which included Breakfast and Dinner!) was only $69/day!!! A daily lift ticket for 9 mountains and over 200 trails was $24 and complete rentals were $18/day. The Rental car- $12/day. Soup to nuts you're looking at $1600/person for the whole thing. You have Onethousandtwentynine days to save up. That's $1.56 a day per person. If you gave up smoking a pack a day you could bring three people on that! If you saved your tax returns for the next 3 years most of us could go easily. For the price of a sm. regular no frills Starbucks Coffee a day you too could be sippin' an espresso or Wiessen Bier at the mid station Gastehaus watching you kids skiing over the backs of Hansel and Gretal's new skis. Do I need to say more!?! ANY other Ideas are welcome.
WE AIN'T THERE YET!
Unless someone else wants the lead on this one I'll be the clearing house for the logistics and organization on the reunion. But I can't do it alone. Most of all we need input on the who, what, where, and when's of the fiasco. Start talking to each other, and to me. A thing of this magnitude can't get thrown together at the last minute. At first count we could have at least 40 people in on this. It could well be double that a year form now as I am going to post this note to the AFRC message board also. We shouldn't wait to the last minute to try to finance it either. On January 1st of this year I started throwing my loose pocket change in a bowl at the end of each day, as of last Sunday 119 days later I had $ 163.18! That everyday and this years tax return and I'm on easy street for our AFRC Alpine Adventure 2006.
To quote The Oak..."Let's not talk about it, let's do it!
Prost,
TStock
