I visited Garmisch in August 2025. While much of the town remains the same and has beautiful Alpine buildings, the US Military facilities have changed significantly, based on the reduced Military presence in Germany. The PX complex which included the Commissary, Snack Bar and Auto Repair center has been demolished and replaced by a school. The International Bar and Grill complex which also housed the Movie theater, Billeting office, Sports Store, Tennis Courts and other recreational facilities had been torn down and replaced by a Supermarket chain retail outlet.
it is sad to see them go, particularly the PX Building which was the classic stone 1930's NAZI architecture. There was a mural in the foyer depicting the Wehrmacht. Time marches on...
